What PDF Encrypt & Protect does
Require a password to open the PDF
Set an opening password, and the saved copy asks for it before anyone can view a page. Or leave it open and restrict permissions only.
Restrict printing, copying and changes
Allow or deny printing, content copying and document changes for the saved copy.
Save copies with AES-128 encryption
Every protected copy is written with AES-128 encryption.
Make a copy for each recipient
On Mac, give each recipient a named copy with its own protection, check the saved PDFs, continue unfinished ones and export a record without passwords.
Protect a batch of PDFs in one run
On Windows, set an open and an owner password, queue several PDFs, protect them in one run and reveal each output in File Explorer.
How it works
Step 1 of 5
Add your PDFs
Start with one PDF or several. On Mac, add a named copy for each recipient.
Step 2 of 5
Set the opening password
Require a password to open the file, or let it open without one.
Step 3 of 5
Choose the permissions
Allow or deny printing, copying and document changes.
Step 4 of 5
Check before you save
Review each file before saving. On Mac, the security plan lists each filename, destination and protection choice.
Step 5 of 5
Save the protected copies
Choose where the copies go and save them.

Questions
Does it change my original PDF?
The app saves protected copies. On Mac, the original stays untouched.
Which encryption does it use?
AES-128, not AES-256.
Do print and copy restrictions work in every PDF reader?
Not always. Printing and copying restrictions depend on the recipient's PDF reader.
Does it send the files or track opens?
On Mac, no. The Mac app does not email files or track whether recipients opened them.
Can it change a PDF that already has a password?
Yes. On Windows, enter the existing password to unlock the file first. On Mac, changing existing protection requires the owner's authorisation.
What's new
Version 2.0 · 30 Oct 2026
Version 2.0 makes separate protected PDFs for each intended recipient from one original. Choose an opening password and permissions per copy, review filenames and destinations before saving, inspect the saved PDFs, continue unfinished copies, and export a local preparation record without passwords.
