What MD5 Generator does

  • Hash up to 100 files at once

Drag up to 100 files into the app and hash them all in one run. Choose SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1 or MD5 for the whole batch.

  • Verify a file against a checksum

Paste an expected hash to check one file, or import a .md5, .sha1, .sha256 or .sha512 checksum file. Results show Match, Mismatch or Missing.

  • Compare two folders recursively

Compare two directories and see which files are identical, different, or only in Folder A or Folder B.

  • Export a manifest in four formats

Hash files and save the checksums as Plain Text (BSD), GNU Coreutils, CSV or JSON. Preview the manifest before you export it.

  • Hash text as you type

Type or paste text into the Text tab and the hash updates with each change.

Questions

Which algorithms does it support?

SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1 and MD5. The inspector labels SHA-256 and SHA-512 as Recommended, SHA-1 as Legacy and MD5 as Insecure.

Which checksum file formats can it read?

Plain .md5, .sha1, .sha256 and .sha512 checksum files in BSD and GNU coreutils formats.

Does it change my original files?

No. The app reads files to compute hashes and writes only the manifest or report you export.
