What Custom Folder Icons does

  • Combine a symbol, colour and text

    Put a symbol and a text label on a coloured folder. Add a texture and set its opacity. Adjust size and placement in the live preview.

  • Use your own image

    Place your own artwork on the folder instead of a symbol. On Windows, you can also fill the whole folder shape with a photo.

  • Copy or save the artwork as PNG

    Copy the finished folder artwork to the clipboard or save it as a PNG file. On Mac, export named PNGs for a whole set of folders.

  • Group folders into Saved Sets on Mac

    On Mac, save chosen folders as a named Saved Set and share one Family design across Primary, Archive and Reference roles.

  • Check changes before they reach Finder

    On Mac, compare the last applied look, the current Finder icon and your design at 512, 128, 32 and 16 pixels, then confirm.

  • Browse 255 icons on Windows

    On Windows, search 255 Segoe Fluent Icons in 15 categories, then tint the folder with one of 8 colour presets or any hex colour.

Which folders does Custom Folder Icons change?

Only the folders you choose. On Mac, designing never changes Finder on its own, and subfolders are never changed automatically. On Windows, the change appears in File Explorer when you click Apply to Folder.

Can I get the original look back?

On Windows, one tap brings back the original Windows icon. On Mac, Restore Center can help return to an earlier look when the folder can be verified and authorized.

Will the new look stay sharp at every size?

On Windows, the app writes 16, 32, 48 and 256 px versions for every File Explorer view size. On Mac, check the 512, 128, 32 and 16-pixel previews before you confirm.
