What Background Cut Studio does

  • Remove the backdrop automatically

    Removal starts when a photo loads. The app separates the subject from the backdrop, then you refine what it missed.

  • Paint back or erase missed areas

    Paint coverage back with a brush, or remove it with an eraser. On Mac, add or subtract areas with Lasso and Quick Select.

  • Remove a colour with Color Similarity

    Choose Color Similarity as the Cutout Type, then adjust Sensitivity to widen or narrow the match.

  • Check outlines before saving

    Switch between Result, Original, Outline, Alpha and Split views. The inspection views do not change the file.

  • Place the subject on a new scene

    Keep transparency, fill behind the subject with a solid colour, or drop in your own image.

  • Export a full-resolution PNG

    Save the same full-resolution PNG with transparency, or copy it to the clipboard.

How it works

    Open a photo

    Import a photo or drag it in. Removal starts the moment it loads.

  2. Step 2 of 5

    Let the automatic pass finish

    The first cutout begins automatically. You can return to the automatic choice at any time.

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Refine the edges

    Paint with the brush, erase with the eraser, then tighten the outline with three edge sliders.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Check the result

    Compare the edit with the automatic cutout, then check outlines and transparency before saving.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Export the PNG

    Export a PNG with transparency, or copy the cutout to the clipboard.

On Windows, it opens JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC and WebP. Output is always PNG, with transparency preserved.

Can it process many photos at once?

On Mac, it works on one photo at a time. There is no batch processing and no saved editable project.

Which formats does it save?

It saves PNG only, with transparency kept. On Windows, it also opens JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC and WebP.

Is there an iPhone or iPad version?

Not at the moment.
